Royal Wedding Sew-Along | Week Two | Making a Muslin and Assessing Fit

Grab your pattern and a calculator! Today we’ll be covering making a muslin and assessing fit. From finding the size that’s best for you to analyzing where to nip and tuck on a practice garment to get a tailored dress fit for a princess or a queen!

Regarding the finished garment waist measurements, I left out the center back seam allowance…duh!

So, here’s how it breaks down for real…
Size 18:
Front A/B: 9.75 x 2 = 19.5 – SA (1.25″) = 18.25
Front C/D: 9.75 x 2 = 19.5 – SA (1.25″) = 18.25
Back all views: 9.75 x 2 = 19.5 – SA (2.5″) = 17

Total Waist A/B: 35.25″
Total Waist C/D: 35.25″

Size 16: 33.25″
Size 14: 31.25″
Size 12: 29.25
Size 10: 27.5″
Size 8: 26.5″

My waist measured 33″ and I cut a size 16 at the waist, so I have somewhere around .5″ of ease in the waist. It doesn’t sound like enough (even to me) but it ends up feeling ok in the end.
